The report found that the ten most promoted films benefited from just under a third of all promotional spots, with European films gaining 23% of the promotional activities of the TVOD platforms. In terms of visibility for European films, France produced 11 and the UK ten out of the 30 most promoted European films. Yet European TV content was less actively promoted than European films. The Visibility Of Films And TV Content On VOD found that only 18% of all promotional spots for TV series advertised European TV content in the month examined, as opposed to 23% for European films.
A new report on the visibility of films and TV content on transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) platforms in Europe from the European Audiovisual Observatory has found that 25 of the 30 most promoted films by TVOD services were produced in the US.
The report, The Visibility Of Films And TV Content On VOD, examined a sample of five European countries: Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the UK. Taking a full month of promotion by on-demand services in October 2017, it analysed promotional activity for films and TV content on 39 TVOD services: 19 national services, and 20 national versions of pan-European services.
